University of Missouri Extension Meetings in Southeast Missouri Corn Meeting - December 13, 2017 at the Miner Convention Center, Miner, MO Soybean Meeting - January 17, 2018 at the Miner Convention Center, Miner, MO Corn On Tuesday September 12, USDA released their monthly Supply and Demand and production estimates. New crop yield, production, and ending stocks came in larger than the pre-report guesses. Yield came in at 169.9 bu./acre above the trade estimate of 168.2 and last month’s yield of 169.5. Production was also higher at 14.18 billion bushels versus the trade guess of 14.0 billion and August‘s 14.15 billion. Ending stocks were increased from last month from 2.27 billion to 2.33 billion bushels. The acres were left unchanged but expect some changes in October when FSA data is used. Bottom line, there are ample corn supplies and price rallies will be limited. What needs to be watched is the South American corn plantings. Approximately 2/3 of Brazil’s corn acres are second crop acres after soybeans. Delayed soybean plantings will delay the corn planting and could lead to lower yields. It is dry and soybean planting has been delayed. If it continues for several more weeks it could have a negative impact on corn production. . ...
