The driver of the SUV that struck the Sugar and Spice Daycare last Thursday is thought to have suffered from some type of medical attack, according to Police Chief Ronnie Adams.

Early Thursday afternoon, a male driving a GMC Yukon crashed into the front of the Sugar and Spice daycare in Portageville. According to Portageville Fire Chief Bill Foster, he was driving west on Main Street when he ran off the road striking parked vehicles and a city trash can just across from the Portageville Police Department. He continued driving down the sidewalk, tearing down awning support beams in front of Stafford's Furniture before plowing into the front of the daycare.

Adams stated that a heart attack was ruled out as the cause at the scene of the accident. They believe the driver had a problem with his kidneys which caused him to black out and wreck.

No official statement has been given explaining the cause of the crash or releasing the driver's name.
