City Workers

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

Two guys were working for the city. One would furiously dig a hole, then the other would come behind him and quickly fill the hole. They were drenched in sweat. A man watching from the sidewalk couldn't believe how hard they were working, but also couldn't understand what they were doing. Finally he said: "I'm confused. You dig a hole and then your partner comes behind you and fills it up again!" The digger leaned on his shovel and replied, "Oh yeah, you see, the guy who puts the trees in the hole is sick today!"

So many times city and government employees are made fun of, but I want to tell you that our city is operated by some extraordinary people. My hat is off to everyone who had to step up during the bad weather. The ice and snow made it difficult for all of us, but I'm thankful to the folks that worked on the streets, patrolled the city, picked up the trash, got out to fight fires and rescued those in need. I have a radio scanner in my home and I heard the many unusual request that were made for help during the ice & snow. Remember, it's easy to criticize and complain when you don't understand what's going on. I've met some folks that do that quite often. I think that we should recognize some of the hard working people that keep our city going, no matter what. I would just like to say, on behalf of many of the citizens of Portageville, "THANK YOU!"

Most of you know the Portageville City employees. When you get the opportunity, stop and tell them what a good job they're doing and also please remember to pray for them daily.
