Municipal Election is Tuesday April 8

PORTAGEVILLE --In this week's newspaper, you will see the sample ballots of who is running for what office in the April Municipal and School Board election.

In Portageville, incumbents have filed for the openings in Portageville's city government. Seeking another term are Municipal Court Judge Chris Stinnett, Ward 1 alderman Delmar Edgar and Ward 2 alderman Floyd Simmons. The position of judge is a four-year term while the term for alderman is for two years. Edgar was appointed by the City Council to fill the vacated seat of Jake Rone. Edgar has also held this position at least twice with different administrations.

He is being challenged by Vince Berry of Portageville. This makes one race for the City of Portageville.

There will be five offices to fill in New Madrid, and thus far four of the incumbents will be on the ballot. Seeking re-election to two-year terms are Mayor Donnie Brown, Ward 1 alderman Tommy Chism, Ward 2 alderman Nick White and Ward 3 alderman Brad Kolwyck.

For a four-year term as New Madrid chief of police, Joey Higgerson is the sole candidate. Higgerson currently is assistant chief of police and Dave Simmons, who was named acting chief of police, has indicated he does not plan to file.

All of the incumbents have filed for re-election in Lilbourn, except for one. Dale Ray is not seeking another terms Mayor. Larry Hamilton has filed for that seat. Hamilton was Mayor prior to Frank Ash several years ago. There are no other races there. Dennis Young has filed for Marshal, Yvonne Morgan for Collector, Robert Taylor for Alderman in Ward I, Alvin Bobo in Ward II, and Richard Kolwyck for Municipal Court Judge.

In the Portageville School District, spots to be decided are those of board president Mark Moody, secretary Lynda Priggel, and Debra Mosby. Terms are for three years. Jarrett Warren has also filed for election.

For New Madrid County Central, three seats are up for re-election. Incumbents Scott Riley, Tim Dambach, Kay Rebstock, Albert Alred Jr., and one newcomer, Danny Parker.
