New assignments released for high school basketball districts for 2015 & 2016

Friday, April 25, 2014

The Missouri High School Activities Association announced class and district alignments Saturday for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.

Class assignments are based on school enrollments. According to MSHSAA's website "the 128 schools with the smallest enrollments make up Class 1. The next 128 schools would make up Class 2, with the next 128 making up Class 3. The next 96 largest enrollments make up Class 4, while Class 5 includes all of the remaining schools."

Advance is the only SCAA school switching classes next season. The Hornets, which advanced to the Class 2 state quarterfinals in boys basketball in the 2013-14 season, are moving from Class 2 to Class 1.

Advance will compete in Class 1, District 2, with Bell City, Delta, Oak Ridge, Oran, Richland, Risco and Fulton School at St. Albans. Advance and Oran have played each other for the Class 2, District 1, boys basketball district title the past four seasons. Risco has won four district titles in the past five seasons in Class 1, District 1.

Bernie and Bloomfield will remain in Class 2, District 1. Exiting Class 2, District 1, are Portageville, Hayti and Senath-Hornersville, which will move to Class 3, District 1, and compete with Caruthersville, NMCC, Doniphan, Malden and Twin Rivers. New additions to Class 2, District 1, are Chaffee and defending Class 1 state champion Scott County Central. Scott County Central has won 16 state titles in Class 1 and the 1980 Class 2 state championship.

The Puxico girls and boys basketball teams will continue to compete in Class 2, District 2. Other teams competing in Class 2, District 2, are Thayer, Greenville, Neelyville, Winona, East Carter County, Van Buren, and Alton. Alton replacing Couch is the only change in Class 2, District 2.

The Woodland girls and boys basketball teams will continue to compete in Class 3, District 2. Other teams competing in the district are Arcadia Valley, Charleston, Clearwater, East Prairie, Kelly, Saxony Lutheran and Scott City. Jefferson, West County and St. Pius X will no longer compete in Class 3, District 2, and Charleston, East Prairie and Kelly are new additions to the district.

The Dexter girls and boys basketball teams will continue to compete in Class 4, District 1, with Sikeston, Kennett, Notre Dame, Perryville and Cape Central. While there are no changes to Class 4, District 1, the potential for new state sectional opponents exists because new teams have been added to District 2, 3 and 4. Teams competing in District 2, 3 and 4 are listed below along with the class and district alignments for other teams in the southeast Missouri region.
