SIKESTON- A man was seriously injured in a shooting Saturday night.

About 10:35 p.m., the Sikeston Department of Public Safety received a report of shots fired at 409 Clayton St. Capt. James McMillian, department public information officer, said the victim stated he was getting out of his car when he heard gun shots.

The victim, who was shot once in the back and once in the leg, was able to flee the scene, running a block to a friend's house, McMillian said. An ambulance was called, taking the man to Missouri Delta Medical Center and later he was transferred to a hospital in Cape Girardeau.

"His injuries were serious but he is expected to recover," McMillian said.
