Portageville Lady Dogs sees improvement

PORTAGEVILLE -- The Scott County Central Bravettes fell to Portageville on the road Saturday 51-43.

The Bravettes (2-10) led 40-38 after three quarters but were outscored 13-3 in the fourth.

It was a nip and tuck game for both sides up to the fourth frame.

Tied 13 -13 in the first, and Portageville down my two at halftime, 22-24, as well as the third frame, 38-40. However, Portageville was able to shut down some decisive shots from Scott County Central and stopped fouling as much in the last quarter.

Johneisha Daniel led the Bravettes with 18 points and 18 rebounds. Ziaire Davis added 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Jelisha Minnis led Portageville with 14 points led by Jill Kellams with 9 points.

It was a slow game for the Lady Portageville Bulldogs last Thursday as they defeated the Hayti Lady Indians, 50-21.

Both teams struggled in the first quarters and remained tied, 2-2 until midway through. With 3:50 left in the first, Hayti scored a three pointer. Portageville's Sasha Starnes score a three-pointer that gave her team the excitement they needed.

In thew second, Portageville in possession of the ball with Hayti not able to contact with the net until late in the period. A three pointer was shot, however with a Portageville fouled, send the shooter to the charity stripe for for a point. Still not enough to catch up with the Bulldogs. It was 32-13 at halftime.

In the third frame, Portageville maintained their lead improving with 15 points for a 43-18 lead.

Both teams however, started to get into foul troubles and turn overs. Portageville only scored three points in the fourth quarter.

Lead scorers for Portageville Shamyia Roston with eight and Jill Kellams with nine points.

Alexis Mason led Hayti with 13 points.

The jayvee game was only played in two quarters, and Portageville lost by one point, 17-18.
