A Work in Progress

Thursday, April 16, 2015

When we become Christians Jesus begins to change us into the persons He wants us to be. We can rest assured that what the Lord has begun to do in us He will complete it. Philippians 1:6 is a familiar verse which makes this truth clear when it says: "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ." Sometimes this progress seems to be two steps forward and one step back and even at other times two steps back and only one step forward. Sometimes we can grow impatient and not understand why the process is slow. My dear Christian friend, remember that God is not always in a hurry like we are. A mushroom can grow up overnight but God want to grow you into a mighty oak of righteousness (Isaiah 61:3). Philippians 1:6 not only promises us that it is God who is at work in us both to will and to do of His good pleasure (Phil. 2:13) but it promises us that whatever God starts He always finishes. So the same God who has saved us is the God who will grow us. So be encouraged. If you are saved then He is still working on you. Remember God loves you and so does First Baptist Church.
