Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 26, 2015

In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued a White House proclamation calling on "The whole American people to observe a special day of Thanksgiving on the last Thursday of November of every year." But of course for Christians every day is a "Thanksgiving Day." As Christians we are thankful for salvation by grace through faith in the shed blood of Jesus. Salvation is the greatest gift anyone could ever receive. Can you be thankful for that gift? I hope so. I hope you know Jesus Christ personally. If not, then through faith in His death on the cross as full and final payment for your sin debt, you can be eternally saved. I pray that God would grant you repentance and faith to receive Him today. Salvation is a wonderful gift. Then the fact that God loves us enough to sanctify us and prepare us for a future home in heaven is a glorious truth that we should be thankful for. We should be thankful for the Scriptures which tell us about the greatest gift God ever gave to His fallen world: Jesus. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). Have a Happy Thanksgiving and remember that God does love you and so does First Baptist Church.
