School district to have monthly meeting; announces filing deadline

The Portageville School District to host monthly board meeting and announces Notice of School Board Election.

The Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, December 13th, at 5:30 p.m. in the Administrative Building.

Items on the agenda for the regular session meeting will include payment of bills for the month and administrative reports. There will be a closed session for discussion of legal and personal matters.

Filing will began Tuesday, Dec. 13 for many school board positions in the Bootheel. Hopefuls may file through Jan. 17, 2017, at their school district office.

A notice was released last week that three board member terms are up for election for the Portageville School Board. in the Annual School Election. The Municipal election will be held on the April 4th, 2017. Mark Moody, Jarrett Warren and Marie Gill's positions will be open.

Individuals who are interested in filing for the Portageville School District seats can do so at the office of administration building with the board secretary.

The filing process is a simple process, but some forms must be notarized, so you will need you appropriate ID.

Candidates will sign a "Declaration as a Candidate" form which asserts that they meet all of the qualifications to be on a school board. Some of those requirements include: U.S. citizenship, resident taxpayer of the district for more than one year, at least 24 years of age, no federal felonies or misdemeanors, no state felonies and the candidate does not owe any delinquent taxes, etc.

Filing must be done in person unless they are prohibited by physical disability from appearing in person or are active duty military. Candidates are also given documents regarding Missouri campaign laws for their use and reference.
