Nick Bommarito is the new conservation agent for New Madrid County

NEW MADRID, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has named Nick Bommarito as a conservation agent for New Madrid County. He joins the ranks of Missouri conservation agents after graduating from the MDC’s most recent Conservation Agent Training Academy class.

Originally from St. Louis County, Bommarito graduated from the University of Missouri – St. Louis with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in May 2014. After becoming a volunteer with MDC’s Protection division in 2013, he began his career with MDC as a resource aide in the Wildlife Division at Columbia Bottoms Conservation Area in the St. Louis area. He then worked as a resource assistant in MDC’s Forestry Division at Rockwood’s Reservation, before becoming a conservation agent.

Conservation agents are licensed peace officers of the State of Missouri who are charged with enforcing the rules of the Wildlife Code of Missouri and other state and federal laws. The duties of a conservation agent vary with the season. During warmer months an agent may check fishing permits and creel limits or catch someone fishing through illegal methods. Duties related to hunting generally occur in the colder months, with patrol and stakeouts as a normal part of the job. Agents also have many duties in the areas of wildlife, fisheries and forestry management.

Bommarito’s outdoor interests include hiking, camping, hunting, and fishing, especially bow hunting and bow fishing.

“I’ve hunted and fished my whole life and have always had an interest in the outdoors,” Bommarito said. “Some of my first memories of the outdoors are sitting on my dad’s lap with a shotgun during spring turkey season and catching fish at my grandma’s lake house just outside of Potosi.”

Bommarito said he looks forward to getting to know the people and places of New Madrid County.

Bommarito can be reached by email at Nicholas.Bommarito@mdc.mo.gov or by phone at 573-326-0886.
