City Council passes two new ordinances

In their mid month meeting of the Porageville City Council meeting on Monday, two new ordinances were passes and a discussion of the City Clerk position was held.

The City of Portageville received a donation of property located on DeLisle Street, but in order to do accept this, an ordinance had to be passed and legal documents needed to be recorded.

In part, the ordinance reads, “The City of Portageville is hereby authorized to accept a donation of real property located in the City at 215 DeLisle Street, Portageville, New Madrid County, Missouri. The legal description is as follows: All lots of Lot 8, Block 11 of the Original Town, Now City of Portageville, Missouri. “

The second ordinance deals with a water line easement on the Bruce Martin Farms property. This would authorize the Mayor to sign on behalf of the City of Portageville, an agreement for a water line easement across certain real property owned by Bruce Martin Farms, LLC.

The ordinance states, “The Mayor is hereby authorized to execute an Easement Agreement is substantially the form set forth with the Bruce martin Farms, LLC under which Bruce Martin Farms, LLC, in exchange for consideration of One Thousand Eight Hundred dollars ($1,800) agrees to convey to the City an Twenty foot Water Line Easement across a tract of land located in Section 36, Township 21 North, Range 12 east and further that the city Clerk is authorized to attest to said Easement Agreement.”

The City Council has set the date for the annual Safety Dinner for Thursday, December 7, 2017. This will be put out for bids.

As far as the City Clerk position is concerned, the council members have narrowed it down to four candidates. More details to be released after the candidate has been selected.

There was other topic discussions, but no action was made until the council had a chance to discuss with the City Attorney.

The next meeting of the City Council will be Monday, November 6.
