Book Festival to celebrate the creative arts

Thursday, October 26, 2017

On October 28, 2017, the Cape Girardeau Osage Centre will welcome the first annual Heartland Book Festival on the Mississippi from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The event seeks to represent the best in talent and creativity in the arts.

National book tours don’t often come to the Heartland. This is a great opportunity for people of all ages to meet authors, buy books, and get author signatures all in one place.

Over 30 authors have committed to attend representing many favorite genres. The public is sure to find great reading from such selections as crime mystery, Christian and inspirational fiction, young adult fiction, science fiction, and children’s books. Lovers of non-fiction will find books covering areas such as history, philosophy, biography, animals, and cook books. Several publishing companies will also be in attendance.

The event is a venue for crafters who will bring early Christmas shopping to the festival with such items as homemade soaps and candles, rock art, handcrafted jewelry, pen and ink drawing, paintings, and handmade pens and knives,

A wide variety of direct sales of well-known products will also be available such as Style Dots, Pampered Chef, Lularoe, and Lilla Rose Hair Clips.

Talent will also be on display with musical groups performing throughout the day. The festival is pleased to welcome Jerry Ford’s Dixieland Band, Dean and Ruth Winstead, GenX (soft rock), Sarah Miller, and the Front Porch Dulcimer Band.

A fresh appreciation of the centuries-old art of storytelling will be shared through the outstanding abilities of Chief Paul White Eagle, Adrienne Ross, and Kathy Waggoner. Scott City High School Speech Team members will perform dramatic events cut from literary selections as they prepare for this season of competition.

It’s certainly not your average book festival, nor is it your average craft show! Join us as we celebrate the creativity, talent, and gifts that fulfill our lives!
