Christmas in the ‘Ville continues with Christmas Parade; Holiday Lighting contest

The Portageville Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce upcoming holiday events that are sure to help keep the Christmas spirit alive around town! "We are continually striving to find new events that get the community involved for fun fellowship and also support local commerce," said Dr. Clint Klipfel, chamber president.

The annual Holiday Lighting Contest is back.

The dates for the Deck the House Christmas Lighting contest has been set, houses should be completed by 5 PM December 11th. Judging will take place that evening.

The categories include Brightest Lights, Most traditional, Most Animated, Best of Ward I, Best of Ward II, Best rural, Best Overall, Honorable Mention for Ward I, Ward II, and Rural. 

Those living outside city limits who wish to compete in the rural category should formally submit their judging request by calling Health Connection Chiropractic at 573-391-2155 no later than 5:00 pm on December 10th. Light up the town and spread Christmas Cheer this season!

Winners will be announced in Dec. 20th issue of the Portageville Missourian-News.

The Christmas in the vill events continues with the Second Cocoa Crawl, a first-ever Christmas Parade.

"You are invited to join the merchants on Main Street on December 7th for the second Cocoa Crawl. Presented by the Chamber, the Cocoa Crawl is a HOT HIT as businesses open from 6:30 to 8:30 for a special evening of shopping and fun. Each business will be serving up their special Hot Cocoa recipe for guests to enjoy and vote "best cocoa" on Main.

Cookie Decorating will be held at Health Connection Chiropractic from 6:30 - 8:30 as well.

The winning business will receive a special prize from the Chamber. Guests can also stop by Health Connection Chiropractic for free gingerbread cookie decorating.

Something new will take place on Friday evening with a Christmas Parade beginning at 6:00 PM.

Categories and Prizes are Floats: First Place, $200; Second Place, $150; Third Place, $75.00;

Walkers: First Place, $35.00; Second Place, $25.00; and Third Place, $15.00;

Wheels: First Place, $35.00; Second Place, $25.00; Third Place, $15.00.

"Mark your calendars because you won't want to miss this new event! It is sure to be an evening of warm, chocolate-wasted fun," Klipfel said.
