Calm Amidst the Storm

Wednesday, January 30, 2019

In the latter part of the eighth chapter of Matthew’s gospel, there is an account of Jesus and His disciples out on the lake when a violent storm came up. In this account, the disciples are rather startled and afraid that they will perish. In their desperation, they call on Jesus, who is sleeping in the back of the boat. As Jesus awakes and sees what is happening he utters these words to the winds that blow so strongly, “Quiet, be still.” At His command the winds and waves obeyed. In fact here is what the Bible says, “He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.” Matt 8:26 NIV
