Parks speaks at Portageville High Veterans Day Assembly

Veteran Parks is a Vietnam Veteran and VFW Judge Advocate. He served his country from 1968-69 in the US Army Medical Corps. He went to Viet Nam in 1968 and was the senior medic for G Troop Second Squadron of the 11th Armored Cavalry AKA (Blackhorse). Parks returned to the United States with two purple hearts and an assortment of other medals. Upon his discharge in November 1969, he went into reserve duty where he served for nine years until he became the school superintendent of the Caruthersville School District. Portageville, Mo. - Olin Parks was the guest speaker at the Veterans' Day Assembly at Portageville High School Monday morning. Above, Parks urged the students to get to know your local Veterans and listen to their stories, but most of all Thank them for their service to this country. At one point, he held up a digital recorder and played songs of the war days that encouraged both the soldier and their families.

The Portageville FBLA Club sponsored the event. After the program, refreshments were served in the Home-Ec. room.
