Speakout (3/16/24)My question is why does Sikeston officials allow the couple with the big, white dog to sit in the roadway by Walmart all the time. I know they’re needing help but it’s so dangerous for them to be there. I know they’ve been there since Christmas. They go back and forth. It is so dangersous. I’m concerned for them as well as I don’t think they should be sitting there for fear of somebody being hurt.

Thought of the Week: The gift of eternal life (3/15/24)Last week I attended a trivia night whose proceeds were given to a young woman battling leukemia. Some of the questions were fairly easy, like “What two people were the closest to Harry Potter in the Harry Potter books and films?” (Ron and Hermoine.) Some were difficult, like “In the TV sitcom Friends, what was the name of Mike’s dog?” (Chappy.) Trivia nights are usually opportunities to learn...

A Concord Minute: Look up and be healed (3/15/24)“7 And the people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD and against you. Pray to the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us.” So Moses prayed for the eople. 8 And the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who’s bitten, when he sees it, shall live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a...

Speakout (3/15/24)Jason Smith needs to shut up and pass the bipartisan border bill. I’m sick of hearing him every week in the paper talk about the border and they do nothing. Thank you.

Charge filed after driver damages road sign then leaves the scene (3/13/24)NEW MADRID, Mo. — On the afternoon of March 5, an officer responded to New Madrid Elementary in reference to a damaged road sign. It appeared that during a little league basketball game the night before, someone had run over a stop sign then left the scene...

Speakout (3/13/24)Former President Trump did not cut spending, drain the swamp, fire Dr. Fauci, repeal Obama’s gay marriage order, bring one factory back from China, get us out of Afghanistan. Mr. Trump did add $7 trillion to our debt, pushed untested vaccines on us, banned bump stock, passed out COVID checks, started terrorists that raised our prices, let Joe Biden bungle Afghanistan. So sad this is the best we...

Speakout (3/9/24)It doesn’t take much to fool a fool. If you were a brutal, murdering dictator who fixes his eletions so he can’t lose and is one of the most recognized enemies of the United States and you really want your puppet and partner in a quest to destroy the United States so you can remake the USSR and win an election to elect Trump, you would seek a gang of low-information followers who don’t worry...

Speakout (3/8/24)Amen to the Speakout article titled “Many thoughts.” I agree with you 100%. So thankful someone finally told the truth in this calling. From another deplorable. Trump 2024. Thank you.

Thought of the Week: Put trust in Christ Jesus (3/8/24)Where I live there are a lot of birds. Robins, cardinals, bluejays, screech owls, hawks, sparrows, wrens, and the list goes on and on. With the lengthening of the days and as official spring approaches, I no longer need an alarm clock to get up in the morning. Birdsong begins with the rising of the sun. I enjoy listening to these songs...

A Concord Minute: Them’s the rules (3/8/24)“And God spoke all these words, saying, 2 “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.” Exodus 20:1-2 In the Ancient Near East, God laid out “rules of the house.” Like parents today who lay out boundaries and guidelines for house rules, God did similar with Israel...

Arson suspected in New Madrid fire (3/6/24)NEW MADRID, Mo. — Over the last week, there have been reports of a check scam that may be impacting people locally. At least one report was taken where someone put a check in the mail to their credit card company, only to find several days later that the check never made it to the company. After the victim saw a digital image of the check on their bank statement, it was clear that the check had...

Speakout (3/6/24)The National Rifle Association and Wayne LaPierre were just found liable for millions of dollars for misuse of donor funds. I feel for all you devoted NRA fans who were supporting a magazine company and when in actuality you were just supporting thieves.

Speakout (3/2/24)It looks like our Congressman Jason Smith along with his other Trump puppets have been trying to impeach our President Biden with the help of a Russian agent directed by Putin and Trump so they can argue that everyone in government is corrupt. Then the zombies can cover their cesspool swimming by saying: “They all do it. That’s our system. It’s completely corrupt and only we can save it.” Well,...

Speakout (3/1/24)I am sure Donald Trump could use some extra funds to help pay for all his legal expenses. Maybe he should think about selling his own line of salves and lotions which contain orange dye. A lot of people would like to be orange like he is, and the product might just be a good match with his new line of gold sneakers. I hate myself for sending this to Speakout, but I like humor.

Thought of the Week: Taking a biblical step further (3/1/24)This past Sunday one of our scripture readings was Mark 8:31-38. This is the story of Jesus telling his followers that he will suffer, be rejected and die. Peter, not wanting any part of a future where Jesus will suffer and die, rebukes Jesus, basically telling Jesus not to take the path into this future. In response, we hear a very familiar rebuke of Jesus to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan.” Jesus...

Four children injured in vehicle crash (2/28/24)NEW MADRID, Mo. - In the late evening hours of Feb. 24, the New Madrid Fire Department was paged to a two-vehicle traffic crash on Highway 61 just north of the New Madrid city limits. The crash occurred when a vehicle that was slowing to make a turn into Evergreen Cemetery was struck in the rear by the car behind it. Four juveniles in the car were injured with one of the children who had serious...

Speakout (2/28/24)Donald Trump did not secure the border when he was President. He built 34 miles of new fence on a 2,000-mile, unsecured border using unapproved military funding. The border was not and has never been secure by Trump when he was President. This is just another Trump lie. Trump, recently, did, tell the GOP to stop a $118-billion border bill, which they did, which would have made the border more...

Speakout (2/24/24)Up on this rock, I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Up on this rock, I will stand. Everything else is sinking sand. Jesus is the rock.

Speakout (2/23/24)The governor of Missouri was at the Kansas City Chiefs parade and celebration when the gun fire sprung out. He and his fellow GOP cronies ran like rats to escape the commotion. Maybe they should take a harder look at gun safety and the gun control laws, since they have voted against every and all bills that just might have helped prevent this horrible ordeal.

A Concord Minute: Pressing onwards (2/23/24)“... but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been givenv to us.” Romans 5:3-5 ESV...

Thought of the Week: One of greatest joys in life is to be a fool for Christ (2/23/24)One day last week my sister took care of her granddaughter. After spending the day with her, my sister returned to her home. As she got out of her car, her husband asked her if she would drive back into town and go to a couple of stores to pick up some things he needed. My sister got back in her car to do so...

Speakout (2/21/24)From 2017-2021, Trump was President, inflation was low, unemployment low, gas prices low. We were an energy exporter instead of begging for our oil. The border was secure and being made more secure. Enter Biden, and everything goes to hell in a hand basket. All this hullabaloo about Trump and Republicans defeating the immigration bill is bull and baloney. Laws are on the books. Biden refuses to...

Speakout (2/17/24)Jason Smith has complained and complained about the immigration situation at the border. However, he has stated he will not support any bill(s) other than a GOP bill to improve the situation. He obviously, as with many other GOP leaders don’t want to improve the border situation. They want the immigration/border problem to stay and be an election issue as they have become so divided, they have...

Thought of the Week: Share good news of Jesus with others in your life (2/16/24)I recently spent some time with my great-niece, who is 4 years old. I was wearing my mother’s wedding band. I showed the ring to my niece and told her it belonged to her great-grandmother. She looked at me and said, “And when you die, I can have it.” I could do nothing but chuckle...
