Kindergarten screening

Melissa Miles discusses a math problem with her students at the Sikeston Kindergarten. Parents of children in the Sikeston R-6 School District who have children who will be 5 years old by July 31 will have the opportunity to see if their child is ready for kindergarten by taking part in the upcoming screening and enrollment. Screening and enrollment will be conducted April 4-7 at the Kindergarten Center, 1310 E. Salcedo Road. Parents can call the Center at 471-0653 to make an appointment or for further information. The screening process takes about an hour and half.

Used book sale begins today

Members of the Sikeston Bleacher Bums including Michael Porter followed by Max Ault provided the muscle to bring up boxes of books for the Sikeston Public Library's Annual Used Book Sale. When the sorting is complete, the public will be able to begin making their purchases from 5-8 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m Saturday and on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. buyers can fill up a bag with books for $1 per bag. Proceeds from the sale will be used to purchase new items for the library's collection.
